Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi/lo starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants can get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in just about every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem complicated at first, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting array of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many players shooting for the high, along with many trying for the low. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
