Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where some players get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in nearly every poker game.

A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at first, following a few hands you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting range of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals battling for the high, along with several shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha Hi-Lo.
