Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
